The acrylamido group in HANERCHEM® AMPS-Na can accelerate polymerization. The two branched methyl group and sodium methane-sulfonate group can inhibit hydrolysis and thermal degradation caused by the amino group. The sulfonate group provides monomer with hydrophilic and ionic characteristics under any pH value. It is suggested from the investigation results of coagulum, particle size and surface charge density of latex synthesized with HANERCHEM® AMPS-Na, that the stability of the latex can be enhanced due to polyelectrolyte property of the polymeric ionosphere absorbed on its surface. HANERCHEM® AMPS-Na can take place of carboxyl monomers, such as acrylic or methyl acrylic acid, besides reducing usage of other surfactants, which would result in improved bivalent-ion resistance, anti-hydrolysis capability, as well as enhanced mechanical and thermal stabilities of resultant all-acrylate, vinyl acetate-acrylate, or styrene-acrylate emulsions.
